Study in Finland for free: tuition free universities in Finland

 Naijascholarshipsbuzz

Do you desire to study abroad, but scared of taking care of the huge tuition fees involved?

Well, luckily for you, naija scholarships buzz has revealed to you one of the countries with many universities that offer tuition free scholarships!

And this country is no other but FINLAND.

Finland is one of the countries that still offer tuition free scholarships for both home and international students.

"How is this possible?", you may ask. The good news is that university higher education in Finland is fully (or partial, depending on the school) funded by the State through the Ministry of Education, and therefore international students enrolled in regular degree studies end up  paying no tuition fees.

The striking fact is that both Bachelor’s and Doctoral level programmes (as well as many Master’s level programmes) do not charge any tuition fees, regardless of your country of origin!

And this also applies to international degree students and to exchange and visiting students as well. However, some Master’s programmes may charge tuition fees from non-Europian/EEA students.
The student union charges a membership fee per term. Membership is compulsory for those studying for their Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees; those pursuing their doctoral studies may join the student union if they wish.

Don't say you never knew:

Though there are lots of educational institutions in Finland offering tuition free scholarships, there's one important aspect of studying in Finland you should know; it is hard to find such a scenario where you are offered free tuition and your daily expenses being taken care of as well — you don't expect the finish government to take care of your living expenses after offering you free tuition, and so you will have to take care of your living expenses throughout your stay in Finland.

Thus, you need to be able to consider how to finance your study or research period. You will need to be able to cover your everyday living expenses, travel, insurance, and so on.

Also note that financing one’s stay and studies in Finland by working is not possible.

Meanwhile as of 2018, below are the tuition free universities in Finland for home and  international students as well as universities with minimum tuition payment plans.

Make sure you read carefully the guide provided by each of these schools on how to apply for free tuition.

University of Turku: Tuition fees are charged from non-EU/EEA citizens (7000 Euro/academic year).
